Lord have mercy and TGIF.

Thanks for linking Grift's post about Milton. Somehow that one flew right by me this week. If only we could get Grift to admit he's really a lefty and he needs to sign up for the feed.

Thanks for the link, but if you think I was pissed yesterday...

Lord I need a drink.

Aw Rusty, truer words were never spoken: "Takes a bullshitter to know one"

The Milton thing has been irritating me too. The way I see it, Miltonites won't be able to afford to pay Miltonites to perform their county services, so people from Fulton and elsewhere will come in and collect the trash and staff the libraries and drive the ambulances. So Miltonites are effectively getting the services for themselves but not paying for the support service for the people providing them. Who cares if the county maintainence crew gets a library in their neighborhood, or a convenient polling location or enough sheriffs deputies. And yet, many Miltonites will drive into other counties to work every day and use the free services and go home at night and complain about their taxes.
Grrrr.

Well to be fair Jerry, I do have to give credit where credit is due. Sandy Springs did wean itself from the Fulton County teat in less than a year. I still honestly believe creation of all these new entities is a bad idea for metro as a whole but what the Sandy Springs folks have accomplished is impressive.

Posted by: griftdrift [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 12:00 PM

No info, but the powers that be must really really not want to have to say "What's that Chairman Berlon?"

I can't begin to express just how goddamned thankful I am that the shitstorm ends tomorrow (well, Phase I anyway. I know Phase II begins as soon as the voting is over.).

gd, Sandy Springs weaned itself off Fulton County gov't but is now sucking on a corporate momma. SS is being run by CH2MHill. C'mon you can't act like they are standing on their on own 2 feet. They are not. You wouldn't believe the incredible overhead that they are paying CH2. SS would be royally screwed if CH2 pulled out and took all their people in supportive services.

The same goes for Johns Creek - they also hired CH2 to get them up and going.

Always look behind the curtain...

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 12:47 PM

Yeah Smitty, I am aware of CH2. Actually I don't mind privates handling some services. Maybe that's why I don't get admitted to the feed, Mel. ;)

I don't mind privates running municipal services but you are right about one thing. If the services are worse and the finanicials aren't sound don't pretend its the best thing since sliced bread.

See Rusty's #4.

For those who have been paying attention (and a few of you who chipped in), the fruits of my ChipIn have arrived by UPS...and I couldn't stop BGAWK giggling. (It may have been the fumes from the rubber mask that had been wrapped in plastic for God knows how long.)

BGAWK!

Shelby, aren't you supposed to be hard at work on a dissertation?

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 01:11 PM

Well, yeah, and I'm sure prison would be a great place to concentrate on my writing!

Posted by: shelby [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 01:18 PM

are you trying to pull a MLK "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" kind of thing. I don't think those technical geeks at your university will quite get down with your rebelness.

BTW: Jules always has bail money.

Lookin' good Shelby!

If any of you have high water bills lately, this might be illuminating:

Shelby, please tell me your dissertation is not on this topic: "to understand the fundamental mechanisms of sexual orientation in sheep. The physiological factors that might explain why about 8 percent of rams seek sex exclusively with other rams instead of ewes."

There is a guy who has been studying this for the past 5 years. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/25/science/25sheep.html?em&ex=1169960400&en=83a8a0ffb7f393f8&ei=5087%0A

The NYTimes was definetely trying to get people to read the article with this title: "Of Gay Sheep, Modern Science and Bad Publicity"

Those gay sheep demand a retraction.

In the spirit of being Swiss, I am voting for all 4 of the 5 DPG Chair candidates tomorrow. There are going to be 4 rounds so I'm giving a vote to each of my chosen 4 candidates. 1 candidate won't get my vote - it's not because I don't they are not good - it's just that there are only 4 rounds.

In fairness, no candidate has ever asked me to vote for them all 4 times, they only asked me for my vote (in a singular tone).

That's how we Swiss do it - we follow the details of the game.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 01:51 PM

Several Diplomats from the Swiss delegation, wish to point out that you are actually now a member of the Portuguese Corps.

We of course still think you are fabulous, but perhaps have forgotten that your delegation, although small still needs you.

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:03 PM

MelGx... I'm afraid there is nothing worse than being called "pudgy".

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:05 PM

I refuse to be in the Swiss delegation anymore. Your religious flag was getting on my nerves anyway. You can't just move me to Portugal. That's it. I'm in the Cuban delegation where my friends truly are. One vote. One person. Every round.

Hail to Castro!!

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:09 PM

Ah, wouldn't I rather be skiing in Gstaad about right now.

Posted by: MelGX [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:22 PM

Wait a minute. You vote on these things four times?!?!?! Honestly at this point I don't know if you are the most thorough people I know or the most insane. I'm going to have to rethink my attending to watch the fun.

Posted by: griftdrift [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:26 PM

gd, it's about 4 hours of timne if you calculate all the nominating speeches alone. Then there is all the time it will take to count the votes after each round. Then the amount of time to remove the losers from the stage.

Now you know why Democrats know much more about paper ballots than Republicans.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:30 PM

It's elimination rounds, unless you get more than 50%.

I think what Smitty figures is that with so many folk in some of the races, we'll have at least 2-3 rounds. What you really want to pray for is that they don't get to speak again. Now do you see why we all will be carrying flasks and going to our cars in between.

It's like voting for pope, but the ballots are not burned in the end, how much we all wish they were.

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:33 PM

"Now you know why Democrats know much more about paper ballots than Republicans"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Posted by: griftdrift [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:34 PM

Now Jules you see why Smitty is in the Cuban delegation. "One vote. One person. Every round." Smitty no likey Democrats when they lose - they become crazed and vengeful. Smitty is doing a little CYA up in the DPG. See the crazed Democrats can't get all revengeful on Smitty because Smitty voted for them at least once. This way Smitty can redirect their anger to those that didn't vote for them at all.

Ya'll don't know nothing about that in Swiss. That's how we handle our business in Cuba.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:46 PM

Yeah yeah yeah with Cuba already... You just remember who has the chocolate, the stolen millions in number accounts, and the good cheese.. oh and the kick ass cold remedies..

Riiiiiicola...

what'cha got but cigars, universal healthcare and a 98% literacy rate, bahah

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:50 PM

Swiss playa haters are the worse! Don't make me get all Castro on your delegation tomorrow.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:55 PM

And the IBEW building is most certainly NOT the Sistine Chapel where those red-clad Cardinals get to vote for Pope.

Posted by: jac1975 [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 02:58 PM

I betcha still gotta "kiss the rings" at the IBEW. I'm standing so far way from jac1975 when those union boys and girls come after him.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:03 PM

jac1975; how right you are... Even Michangelo wouldn't be able to do anything with a acoustic tile ceiling. Oh and the proper term is "scarlet", dear. That's no ordinary red, just a hint of scarlet on a cassock in Rome will bring out the very best veal.

Smitty don't be cranky, we aint "playa hating" to use your term. We are far too dignified and proper for all that.

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:08 PM

What color smoke will come out when we have a new chair?

Posted by: shelby [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:38 PM

I dunno but since the IBEW building doesn't have a smokestack (to my knowledge) are you guys suggesting we burn the building down when we're done with it?

Posted by: chris [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:42 PM

Shelby..I think we need to see if the smoke is coming from someone's ears or ass for that..

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:43 PM

Chris, don't be saying stuff like "are you guys suggesting we burn the building down when we're done with it" - you will get that Swiss delegation all agitated. You know that they are "far too dignified and proper for all that".

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 03:47 PM

Smitty, no need for alarm we Swiss know "humour" when we hear it... tut tut

You know you've been in Switzerland too long when:

...you don't get upset about US politics, because after all they're American
..you think sponteniaty is OK, as long as it's planned.
..you think getting up early is good.
..you try to defend cartel based economics to a visitor.
..you think that plaid jackets with flowery ties don't look that bad.
..you worry that you don't have the right sort of glasses for the drinks you are going to serve.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:01 PM

uuummm your point Smitty?

Posted by: Jules [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:05 PM

Yeah, so I have no idea why my post came up THREE times...apologies!

Posted by: jac1975 [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:09 PM

Itchy trigger finger jac1975. Just hit POST once. Apologies for our slow ass server.

Posted by: MelGX [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:11 PM

God forbid I wouldn't have the correct glasses for anything I might be serving. Of course, what are the chances? Wagers, anyone?

Posted by: CatherineAtlanta [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:25 PM

You know you've been in Switzerland too long when:

..you throw a party and expect everyone to leave by 11:30 pm.
..you clean up during parties.
..you expect dinner guests to help with the washing up.

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 04:32 PM

Woo hoo! All night party at Smitty's!

No cleanup help required!

OK this DPG election stuff has to stop NOW!! I just received a robocall from Randal Mangham's wife. yes his WIFE sent out the message. She said "vote for my husband Randal Mangham for Congressional District/County Liasison Vice President" How much did Smitty hate when real politicians called during the 2006 election sesason? - A WHOLE LOT. Secondly, if your spouse agrees to do something this ridiculous and over the top then Randal please give her the right words - you are running for a Vice Chair spot and not a Vice President spot.

OK ban me now Mel for being cranky!

Posted by: Smitty [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2007 05:11 PM

I just got the same call. You beat me to it.

And who would have thought, yet another election day where we can look forward to NO MORE ROBOCALLS. I swear...
