I am hopeful for a new era in Georgia Democratic politics with yesterdays elections. Ms Kidd seems to have the skills and passion required as we move the party onward and upward. Commissioner Thurmond's unwavering support and leadership is sure to give us the national credibility we deserve. Mr Pascoe's business acumen and international experience will bring a refreshing new outlook to the constituency Vice Chair activities. Ms Rosser and Mr Leeds provide the continuity and connections we so desperately need to further the ongoing projects and those in their developmental stages.

My only regret is that there are no African American women in the elected Executive leadership. I hope that Ms Kidd is quick to include many of our dynamic African American women in her circle of advisors. Ms Dorsey's comments about the ongoing strength and support provided by African American women is spot-on and must be reinforced and rewarded in a variety of tangible and effective ways.

The new era starts today! High fives all around.

You are much more optimistic about the results that I am. I feel this is really more of the same. It's a very small improvement from the past but not the swift kick in the ass that is needed.

I'm in a wait and see mode right now.

This is a great day for the DPG! The only thing I wish we could add to the new mix (and admittedly this is almost impossible) is to have the national connections Chair-emeritus Kahn had from the 88 DNC and other races. Oh well, still excellent choices all around!

"Kidd's supporters described the 53-year-old former Athens state representative as a centrist and called her election a victory for those who want to challenge Republicans for moderate and independent voters — and appeal to older, traditional Democrats in rural Georgia."

It's great that we have someone in there who will work to rebuild the party in rural areas. The typical Atlanta liberal viewpoints do not play well in these areas. Democrats still overwhelmingly hold local elective offices in rural areas, and hopefully Chairwoman Kidd can help strengthen the rural Democratic vote. Without the rural vote the party will eventually become as extinct as the Republican party once was.

I remember she asked is she going to "chairwoman" or "chair". I like "chairwoman".

I just want to point out that the Speaker of the House when the Democrats lost control of the House in 2004, Terry Coleman, was from Eastman. Dubose Porter, who replaced Coleman as the Democratic leader is from Dublin. The Democrats leader in the Senate is from Macon.

The Democratic leadership has never been based in Atlanta. Not sure where you've got that impression, William.

I get slow sometimes. What are the liberal viewpoints that don't play well again?

Getting paid a decent wage for a decent job?
Having a clean environment to live in?
Planning for the future and not being held to the results of short-term thinking by a few powerful interests?
Letting people have control over their bodies?
Being treated as equal creatures before the law?

It's that equality thing, isn't it?
