Harry Douglas' injury is worth cursing about

Two interesting developments from Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas' torn ACL that wiped out his season:

1. Matt Ryan curses. The choir boy quarterback let out a good one at practice when Douglas went down. It may take something extreme to trigger a bad word out of Ryan, and now we know the threshold.

2. Roddy White might not be back so soon after all.

Negotiations between the Falcons and the holdout wide receiver, who seeks some well-funded security as he enters the final year of his contract, had hit an impasse before Douglas went down. This being the NFL, White had little leverage, so his tactics seemed short-lived.

With Douglas out, the conventional wisdom is that the Falcons will give in to White's demands. Rather, White, who is delusional if he puts himself in Larry Fitzgerald's class, might figure he has the upper hand and become more resolute with his holdout.

There is no track record on how young Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff handles such matters. But owner Arthur Blank is no pushover, and Dimitroff is unlikely to meet White other than half-way.

Douglas will be missed. White might be missing for longer than expected.
