If you belong to Bulldog Nation, you are worried to death about a certain stricken senior at the University of Georgia. He is Joe Cox (left), only the most important player on the UGA team at this most important day -- the eve of the season opener.
Cox is reported to be flu-stricken, so much so that he did not accompany the team to Stillwater, Okla., for Saturday's tougher-than-anticipated game against Oklahoma State. The early word is, Cox will arrive later and still start, but you have to wonder how he'll deal with weakness from his symptoms combined with the intense pressure of his first start.
His understudy, Logan Gray, is a redshirt sophomore who has taken snaps in one game. (He was 0-for-2 against Georgia Southern, running twice for 21 yards.) His main duty last season was returning punts.
Cox's condition will cause coach Mark Richt to call upon his phenomenal road-game mojo; he is 30-4 at UGA. As the quarterback copes with a fever, football fever may be taking a dip in Bulldog Nation.
