It doesn't seem long ago that Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson (left)

was defending his triple-option offense against charges that was it antiquated, quirky and/or doomed to failure. After the Jackets vanquished Vandy 56-31 Saturday in Opryland, Johnson has the right to say, "Can you hear me now?"
Loud and clear, coach. Tech controls the clock like nobody's business, keeping the ball for 39:45 even though it had a couple of long-strike TDs for 35 and 87 yards.
Add up the total yardage: 597. Amazing for a team that went aerial a mere 13 times.
The Associated Press properly moved Tech into its top 10 after Southern Cal plummeted with a loss to Oregon. (The coaches' poll put them at 11th, just behind Penn State.)
Nice as that is, the Jackets wouldn't trade places with anyone in the ACC. All that's left is Wake Forest at home, Duke on Tobacco Road. Even if Tech should stumble to Wake, a win in Durham likely would vault them into the league title game as Coastal Division champs.
While other schools crash and burn around them -- are you listening, Georgia, now that you'll l be a mega-underdog at Tech on the last Saturday in November ? -- the guys with the oddball offense keep flattening everyone in its path. Next you thing know, coaches from around the country will be visiting Johnson in the offseason to pick his brain.
