Bug Smashing Open Thread

[Promoted by admin]

The transition to WordPress is complete.

Over the next couple of days, we’ll be tracking down bugs and fixing format issues as we reconcile the old platform with the new. Please excuse the mess as we do so.

If you find something that requires our attention, please leave us a note in the comments and we’ll add it to the list.  As we’ve worked through transitioning the 3,000+ entries and over 22,000 comments, it was pretty cool to look back at some of the fun that’s occurred on these pages.  Y’all sure do talk a lot.

Cheers.

I wonder what % of those 22000 comments were mine?

I 100% agree with Jen. I had all but given up commenting because it was such an arduous process to get logged in and wait for the comment to go through. So if nothing else, I am thrilled that is now fixed.

Seems to be working now, thanks! And yes, we’ve found ways to make several cites w/o the tags. JMP

Not totally in love with the site redesign, but.. I LOVE the new commenting procedure. Much easier.

Thanks Mel, I liked the feeds and that’s what made the site more useful, IMHO. But be that as it may, I think the ones you’ve got there now are a good start, but I’m not sure about ‘driving traffic away’ at all.

On the HTML tags bit, am I just not recalling exactly how to do them again? I’ve tried twice and came up croppers on both times. Do the sites need around them once again? Is there no way to try and automate this, as evidently I’m forever not getting the precise sequence required down so they can come across. To me? That’s a bug. It’s been virtually automated almost everyplace else. But thanks again for your help here. JMP

JPM, we can always add the feeds back, but they do slow the site down. Are there particular feeds you miss? I’d like to avoid adding them all back. Besides, I started to worry we might actually be diverting traffic from the other sites by publishing their feeds. That was never the intention. In fact, quite the opposite.

And HTML tags are allowed, so I’m not following you there.

HTML tags need work here too. If they’re to be disallowed in comments, note that. If they’re allowed it really should be automated as much as possible. It’s either that or I’m forgetting which ancient format they’re to be properly used here. Because once the comment’s kicked into ‘moderation’ and it’s lost for days? It’s lost. I also liked the old versions of the feeds from various other sites that had their weekly activity up there & included in the sidebar too. Thanks again! JMP

won’t lie i don’t like the new site much at all. But that was expected I’ll bet. Hell I complained every other time Flack changed a site I blogged for 🙂

BTW: Are the old special contributors still posting?

This is totally painful. I hope it’s totally worth it.
