Supreme Ideology

icon_supreme.jpgCool info-graphic illustrating ideological shifts over time, by Justice, on the Supreme Court.

What I wouldn’t give for two more William O. Douglases circa 1974!

Yep, I tell people we’ve got the most radically skewed Conservative USSC not only in living memory, but perhaps in at least 100 years. Cass Sunstein has been saying this for years, and he’s got a few books out documenting the now heinously right wing transition on the courts.

And he’s not the only one saying it:

Elections do have consequences. Many of them highly unfortunate. Like illegal & immoral wars, detentions w/o trial, torture & illegal wire taps on everyone & sundry etc. But we really should have stood down the ridiculous threat by the Rethugs to ‘eliminate the filibuster’ and trashed Alito when Bush nominated him. Neither Roberts or Alito really belong on the court, but Alito’s whole history is just of an ideologue & a bag man for nefarious Repug causes. Pretty stupid actually anointing his incredibly regressive views now with a lifetime tenure. Which of course is yet another issue. They desperately need term limits too. Just to limit the carnage if nothing else! JMP

[BTW: The new MT sign in is not working for me today either].
