Real men wear lavender!

purplehemestie.jpeg
This fall I’d like to see some of my favorite men wearing something

other than blue. Oh yeah I know you all look good in that Delta uniform

blue shirt, but please I beg of you, change up this season to Lavender.

Purple, is the color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication.

I’ve noticed the lavender/purple/lilac trend among talk show hosts and their guests, haven’t you.

A lavender shirt with a contrasting darker shade tie is all the rage.

Recently,

Bill Maher was rocking a lilac shirt and dark purple tie with a medium dark grey

suit.  Charlie Rose, Jon Stewart and even the President have been

punching it up with purple tones. Keith Olberman has to be the master

of using lavenders and purples. His coloring is particularly suited to a shade of lilac with a charcoal gray pin strip suit. In general men

with a little silver in their hair will do well with lavender or purple.

obamatie.jpegNote

how the President is doing his lavender tie, with a white shirt and a

dark suit. This is the best way to wear this color. Dark

colors will highlight the lavender shade. Under no circumstance should

you wear this color with the dreaded khaki, well unless you want to

look like easter basket.

ahnoldtie.jpegCheck

out Ah’nold, he’s boldy putting the purple out there! Again, note the

color combination, purple, gray and white. But I think he’s dying his

hair-cause wow, that doesn’t look natural.

This combination is from Brooks Brothers and it’s a great look for fall.

More resources below the flip.

I will give a prize to the first DFI reader I see in a lavender something!

French cuff shirt from Overstock here.  Armani mens shirt at Saks here. Nordstrom’s has a lovely selection. If you are not up for investing in a shirt, check out some ties. More here, and here.

Nothing like a hint of color in your sock region, ok maybe a bit much.. but I think Ed has the sock hook up for us, perhaps he’ll kindly leave it in the comments.

Not a shirt and tie guy, what about these Vans?

I’ve been meaning to write your sock post for a while now. I know what I’m going to say I just am too lazy to do it.

At any rate, do I get a prize for routinely wearing lavender?

One note on French cuff shirts… they are too formal to be worn with anything other than a suit. Wearing an odd jacket and tie is not enough to wear an FC shirt. Please respect at least some modicum of etiquette and formality.

Yeah a little bit goes a long way here. Some of that stuff can look a bit spacey, albeit alone. And since few are willing to comment here, of course I’m always willing, right? I’ve got about 2/3 of my stock of neckties (yeah, that may not be saying much), with this lovely lady: Jill Wagoner of Fuquay-Varina, NC. 27526

She’s got no current website (actually not uncommon for many artists), but she does fantastic stuff with hand marbled silk ties, scarves & other items. I’ve known her for well over a decade now, and have about 10-12 ties from her. All are unique & hand done, but her palette is a bit more into ‘basic colors’ and a bit more ‘traditionally’ muted. I dare say that they’re rarely commented upon when I wear them either. Naturally I don’t blame the artist but perhaps the inadequate platform for this oversight. JMP
