You know, I’m thinking President Obama should just go ahead and nationalize all US-based assets of BP Global. Cause there are those who will insist he’s a socialist/fascist/whateverist no matter what he does. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer company.

They’ll just restructure those assets out from under the BP USA corporate entity. This is the problem with being royally fucked over by a corporation headquartered outside the U.S. We could theoretically seize all US-based assets, but my guess is they have already started tinkering with their corporate structure to minimize those to as little as possible…*just* in case.
(If the average non-lawyer out there knew how many corporations ask us lawyers how to structure their corporate umbrella to ensure they can evade future judgments against them, it would make you really, really angry.)
My CAP colleague suggests they just do it.
It’s not likely to happen for a number of reasons butdebarment is something I could get behind.
